About “Metrics-driven Market Validation”
Metrics-driven Market Validation (MDMV) is a new approach to rapidly determine the best B2B markets for deep-tech, scientific, or disruptive startups.
MDMV combines entrepreneurship and marketing insights to help entrepreneurs discover, understand, and assess the potential applications and business cases of their technology.
Specifically, MDMV:
- Is strictly B2B / B2G because these markets are easier and faster to access than B2C;
- Understands that the task of the entrepreneur is to help the customer innovate (i.e., fix something that needs fixing)
- Focuses on the value the product generates but not its features;
- Allows to validate the product without the need to have a finished product, thus avoiding unnecessary "prototypes" and "MVPs";
- Shows a way to test as efficiently as possible whether a customer will need this product by working with customer KPIs and their business case;
- Extends and complements lean startup by using interviews precisely where they make sense;
- Helps entrepreneurs to build a solid connection with their future customers;
- Makes fundraising easier by providing a solid case for the investor or support organization;
- Last but not least, provides a systemic view of the startup-customer relationship.
MDMV is a new concept that makes early-stage entrepreneurs much more effective. Many early-stage tech entrepreneurs have successfully used it in its several stages of development. A variant for entrepreneurial education is currently being worked on.
